End the Wait

For far too long, the pressing needs of the senior population have been underfunded and ignored, leaving older Americans waiting for nutritious meals and human connection. We've been waiting, too:

  • Waiting for adequate government funding
  • Waiting for more donations
  • Waiting for more volunteers
  • Waiting for the needs of seniors to be a national priority

We can’t wait anymore. Growing demand and rising costs have left many seniors waiting for nutritious meals and moments of connection. The need has never been greater, but together, we can End the Wait.

The Crisis of Waiting

The last thing we want to do is wait for anything, big or small. That's why it feels especially ridiculous that millions of seniors have to wait months—or even years—for nutritious meals and moments of connection.

Meals on Wheels of Wake County offers its clients food security, connection, self-sufficiency and independence in their homes. We serve more than 350,000 meals annually- and many clients report that their delivery driver is the only social contact they have all week.

Yet, many more seniors in Wake County are waiting for the nutritious meals and moments of connection they need.

Speak Up for Seniors

Meals on Wheels programs and the seniors they serve need your help! Nationwide, there are an estimated 2.5 million seniors who are not receiving the services they need. This year, we are calling on congress and the administration to:

- Reauthorize and strengthen the Older Americans Act (OAA)
- Increase funding and support for senior nutrition programs
- Expand nutrition access and social connection for older adults

This is where you can help - your voice makes a difference! Reach out to your elected officials to show your support of Meals on Wheels.
